Kewill is proud of its long and collaborative history with the United States Postal Service. We have been helping people all over the world send and receive mail – over a billion pieces of mail since 1975. Because of this, Kewill is featured in a new exhibit in the Smithsonian Postal Museum, America’s Mailing Industry, Powered by the United States Postal Service. It is currently online, and will be featured in a physical exhibit.
Kewill was founded in 1975, and from the beginning, has had an innovative approach to parcel shipping and the dawn of what we now call “eCommerce.” In fact, Kewill Clippership was one of the world’s first multi-carrier parcel solutions and helped the USPS move to a manifesting system in the late 1980s to simplify the billing process for shipping large packages. In the 1990s, Kewill Clippership was among the first products to be verified by the USPS as a tool to allow customers to track the status of their packages over the internet, using print-out barcode labels. Kewill was also instrumental in the Postal Service’s development and deployment of Delivery Confirmation in 1999 and Signature Confirmation in 2001. These major innovations in technology might be taken for granted, but the way we interact with the postal service would not be the same without them.
Even today, Clippership is at the center of the relationship with USPS and Kewill. More than five million packages are shipped each day with the help of Kewill software, the third-largest shipping volume in the US. These products work to automate shipping procedures and improve efficiency, allowing for faster, more reliable deliveries to customers. For example:
- Kewill Clippership is the leading multi-carrier parcel solution for medium-sized businesses, and provides integration and business rules management for hundreds of shippers each day.
- In 2010, Flagship became the first multi-carrier parcel shipping system to be fully certified as compliant with the USPS’ Electronic Verification System – moving paying postage to be electric, automating and eliminating the massive amount of paperwork to streamline operations both for the shipper and USPS.
Kewill is honored to be recognized by the Postal Service for its innovation and efforts to streamline the mailing process. The Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe presented the company with the Mail Technology Award at the National Postal Forum. This was a humbling moment, proving the importance of technology being used in the oldest form of transportation and communication. This honor reinforces Kewill’s position as a leader in the eCommerce movement. We’ve been front and center in the customer revolution to give businesses the agility they need to quickly fulfill and ship orders. Kewill is proud to be a key partner for the USPS in this journey, and is looking forward to continuing the relationship.
