Kewill Technology Automates Shipment Processing of Over 100,000 Packages Per Day for Ditan
29 August 2006
Marlborough, MA - Kewill (LSE: KWL), the leader in enterprise shipping management software and services, today announced the successful automation of shipping management solutions for Ditan Corporation, a leading Retail Distribution Services provider specializing in direct-to-store distribution of time-sensitive products. Operating in conjunction with Ditan’s SAP order management system, Kewill is successfully automating multi-carrier compliance of processing and labeling over 300,000 packages per week.
Customization of the Kewill shipping management technology for Ditan allows Ditan to wave plan, which enables the simultaneous processing of large numbers of shipments from seven different cities across the US. Ditan shipping employees use Kewill to ship packages via UPS, FedEx, DHL, and USPS from one graphical interface to retail stores or distribution centers in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
Ditan's use of Kewill technology also enables RFID labeling for big box retail shipments, whose time sensitive delivery and labeling needs are among the most demanding in the shipping industry. This enhanced capability places Ditan at a significant competitive advantage through their ability to meet these stringent requirements.
"Two days per week and during our entire fourth quarter, Ditan shipment volume spikes," said Michael O’Melia, vice president of Ditan. "In 2005, we shipped a total of almost 6 million orders, reaching over 100,000 packages on our busiest days. We're very pleased with Kewill’s work to customize their technology for our specific needs, handling our volume with both reliability and speed."
The deployment of Kewill at Ditan included a sophisticated, multi-carrier shipping system that has been integrated into the most automated, high-volume warehouse environments in the world. The unique needs of these mission-critical environments are met using Kewill's industry-leading technology that is now utilized in over 100 Distribution Centers in North America, Europe and Asia. Kewill shipping management solutions enable customers to automate their shipping processes with a full multi-carrier rating engine to maximize cost savings and standardize their business process through extensible workflow and business rules templates.
Kewill shipping management solutions integrate with existing IT investments, providing interface to ERP, WMS, and CRM systems.
"Ditan’s business model is built around delivering products to suppliers and retailers utilizing the fastest possible delivery times and highest levels of service," said Michael Dolan, chief operating officer for Kewill.
