Corus International, the global supply chain service business focused around steel, is implementing a solution from Kewill, a leading provider of global trade management solutions for the dynamic supply network. The solution will manage the administration and compliance associated with moving goods across international borders and will speed up the processes involved in getting products to market and reduce costs.
Corus International will be using solutions from the Kewill Customs Exchange portfolio including the leading export documentation solution, Kewill SPEX, and its associated Customs reporting modules. This will ensure Corus acts in accordance with local export government shipping controls and addresses requirements for each market they are exporting to.
Corus chose Kewill because the solution offered a number of key business benefits including a reduction in the administration associated with completing documentation and a cut in costs associated with checking compliance against the fluid legal requirements of individual countries, which include the UK, USA and UAE.
Graham Royle, Information Systems Manager for Corus International, said, “As a business, Corus International has extremely ambitious growth plans. An internal review concluded that a number of our legacy business systems had reached end-of-life and no longer fully supported the future requirements of the businesses. They had therefore become a barrier to achieving our strategic goals”.
“We needed a modern world class flexible export documentation system that would integrate with our new ERP system and allow us to leverage enterprise wide dynamic information for greater efficiency and competitive advantage. We also wanted to work with a partner with large systems deployment expertise, international reach and a comprehensive knowledge of complex trading applications”.
Jacquie Boast, Chief Marketing Officer and COO Kewill Business Integration commented, “Many of our customers have experienced increasing workloads connected to security, political and environmental factors and these were pushing up costs for Corus. Our solutions enable companies such as Corus, whose business is dependent on global trade, to address their reporting obligations, reduce the risk of falling foul of often complicated legislation whilst simultaneously cutting the time goods are in the supply chain.”

The Dynamic Supply Network
The dynamic supply network enables enhanced responsiveness to customers through flexible connectivity between partners, suppliers and other parties in the supply chain, providing improved visibility and effective compliance, bridging the gap from a traditional rigid supply chain.
Over the past 15 years supply chain solutions have matured from simple forecasting and factory scheduling applications through supply chain planning and supply chain execution onto supply chain event management as businesses have seen the benefits of improved visibility and the ability to make real time decisions across the extended supply chain. These solutions have to cater for relationships beyond the four walls of factories, warehouses and offices and provide capability across countries, regions and continents.
We no longer see the supply chain as being a linear process of steps from sourcing of raw materials sourcing to the final end customer use. It is in fact much more complicated and creates a true cross-functional network of global partners all dependent on the performance of the other to ensure the product reaches the end customer in the most efficient and profitable manner. Kewill believes that this widened scope and capability is what creates true dynamic supply networks.
The ever increasing amount of global trade will inspire businesses to find ways to reduce potentially longer lead times, manage more complex supply chains and to do this whilst working with more partner organizations and a greater requirement to be able to demonstrate compliance with regulatory controls. Those businesses who accept the challenge will look to solution providers like Kewill who have not just a suite of integrated products but also deep domain expertise required to deliver excellent customer service thereby generating greater business opportunity and enhanced profits.
